Has your church started planning for Christmas yet?

It's worth thinking about now, particularly if you have a choir who will be singing a carol service (or perhaps more than one). The sooner you know what repertoire you are intending to use over Christmas, the better you can plan your repertoire and rehearsals in the build-up. We think that it's vital to keep the repertoire fresh for a choir in the Christmas period - it's a good antidote to dozens and dozens of verses of 'O come, all ye faithful'!

Make sure also that you take a good honest look at the liturgies you are using over Christmas. In many churches, the traditional 'Nine Lessons and Carols' format will be used, sadly not always successfully. Don't be afraid to try something a bit different, especially if choral singing is not your church's strength. At a time of year when many church congregations swell with visitors, it's essential to make the liturgy clear, simple and effective.
